Friday, January 27, 2012 RBC awards Female Hockey Winnipeg Play Hockey Grant Winnipeg - Close to 250 female hockey players took over the Jonathan Toews Community Center this past Saturday as part of Female Hockey Winnipeg’s annual All-Star celebrations. Game action got underway at 8:00 am and filled up both ice surfaces for most of the morning as fans caught the best Peewee, Bantam, and Midget players competing as the A1, A2 and AA divisions skated in Light versus Dark contests. This year’s All-Star day had a special feel as RBC sponsored the event and provided a pancake breakfast for all players, coaches, and families in attendance. Hiring out the services of a local United Church Women’s group, meals were served to close to 1000 people. Click here for full PDF article
Thursday, January 26, 2012 The first place Falcons shut out the Royals Gateway - The River East Royals could not have asked for more from their goaltender, Ashley Boyd on Monday night when they took on the first place Varsity View Falcons in a Midget A1 matchup. Boyd stood on her head facing a Varsity View offense that put on relentless pressure in all three periods. Unfortunately for Boyd and the Royals, solid goaltending wasn’t enough, as the Falcons took home the victory 3-0. As good as Boyd played, she didn’t get off to the best of starts, as early in the first period the Falcons put their first goal on the board. Starting the play was Leah Coulombe who took the puck hard and wide around the net to lose her defender and find and open Heather Muir in the slot, who made no mistake beating Boyd in the open bottom corner. RBC awards Female Hockey Winnipeg Play Hockey Grant
